meet the moon brothers
The Moon Brothers are independent filmmakers... beginning with their first feature film: Dear J (2008). Their second feature film, Under Jakob's Ladder, is currently in post-production.
how it all began...
They first began to experiment with live musical theatre while studying the book of Job at Brock University (1994). Inspired by the classic tale, they began and completed the initial writing of the libretto and score for the musical Job and the Snake in a dizzying two weeks.
Enlisting the aid of local Niagara-area actors, they launched a successful tour of the Canadian Niagara Peninsula (1994-1995). This soon led to a move and a five-year stay in the world's third largest theatre market: Toronto, Canada.
During this time they operated Trinity Basement Theatre, a workshop space in downtown Toronto. Here they began to create a repertory of additional plays and stage musicals, which to date include:
- Job and the Snake
- Come Away: The Story of Ruth
- EPImenides
- Purim Day
- Pilgrim in Wonderland
- In Search of the Historical Buddha
- O Jonah
- Aesop: Wisdom for Young and Old
- Aesop's Circus
- The Trial
turning to filmmaking...
In 2000, the Moon Brothers moved to New York City where they produced a number of showcases of their musicals in Off-Broadway venues, including the Lamb's Theatre and the Producers Club Theatre. In 2006, they turned one of their stage plays into what would become their first feature film, 'Dear J'. In 2009, they moved on to film their second feature film: 'Under Jakob's Ladder'.
