Dear J: A New Title for CubeCity's First Independent Feature Film
NEW YORK, NY :: March 7, 2008 :: Name changes. They happen for various reasons. And for CubeCity's first film project, a name change is in order, in large measure due to input from our distributor.
Title changes are not an uncommon happening in the world of theater and film. Case in point, 'Death of a Salesman' was originally entitled 'Inside His Head'. And then there's the film classic, 'Casablanca', which began under the name 'Everybody Comes to Rick's'.
Fade in CubeCity's first feature film; this time, with a brand new name. And that name?... 'Dear J'.
The filmmakers have been toying with a name change since filming began back in 2006. The title at the time of filming--'Liars and Lunatics'--was a reference to the C.S. Lewis trilemma which inspired the story in the first place. (Come to think of it, when the story was first written, it had yet another name: 'The Trial'!)
So, why 'Dear J'?
The film follows the story of an evangelist named James Jamisin, who struggles with the untimely death of his agnostic girlfriend. 'Dear J' is a reference to the final letter his girlfriend wrote to him before her accident; a letter James can’t bring himself to open.
"It wasn't an easy decision to alter the name of the film," says filmmaker Roberto Munoz, "We were getting attached to the old title. After all, we had been calling it 'Liars and Lunatics' for almost two years!"
And part of the decision is due to the fact that there is another movie out there with a very similar title to 'Liars and Lunatics'. Says Munoz, "We realized we needed the change. But we wanted a title that was as good as the old one. We think 'Dear J' meets that requirement."
CubeCity is gearing up for the DVD release of 'Dear J' later this year. You can sign up for free updates on the latest movie information by going to www.cubecity.org. You can also keep current by visiting the film blog at www.amoonbrothersfilm.blogspot.com.-- END --
