Independent Film to Feature
She was John Travolta’s co-star in 'Saturday Night Fever'; now Karen Lynn Gorney is featured in CubeCity Entertainment’s first independent feature film project ‘Liars and Lunatics’
Actress Karen Lynn Gorney
NEW YORK, NY :: May 1, 2007 :: Thirty years ago, Karen Lynn Gorney danced her way into the heart of John Travolta in ‘Saturday Night Fever’. The role of Stephanie Mangano is etched into her career memories. Three decades later, Gorney recalls: “I only seem to be able to remember lines from the Shakespeare I've done… and my very Zen lines from ‘Saturday Night Fever’.”
In the summer of 2006, she signed with CubeCity Entertainment to appear in a new independent feature film called ‘Liars and Lunatics’. Filmmaker Roberto Munoz credits his casting director Michael Kricfalusi with pointing him in the direction of this versatile actress: “Michael alerted me to her availability. I was astonished as a first-time filmmaker to have someone of her experience and caliber on board.”
The film ‘Liars and Lunatics’ follows the story of James Jamisin, an evangelist who admits himself into a mental asylum after the untimely death of his girlfriend. Karen Lynn Gorney plays the role of the God-like fantasy Judge. She presides over the imaginary trial used by the protagonist to work through his issues surrounding his girlfriend’s death. When asked what drew her to this role of the Judge, Gorney says, “I've never played God or a Judge in a film. Only in real life!”
The daughter of composer Jay Gorney—who wrote one of the best-known songs of the Great Depression, ‘Brother Can you Spare a Dime?’—Karen Lynn Gorney first got into performing at the age of nine. “Ma forced me to go to acting class,” she recalls, “cause I was too shy to be a singer.”
A classically trained actress, she is a winner of the People’s Choice and European Bravo Awards. Aside from ‘Saturday Night Fever’, she has played the role of the legendary Tara Martin on ABC’s ‘All My Children’. More recently her credits include Judy on ‘The Sopranos’.
Filming for ‘Liars and Lunatics’ began in the New York City area in August 2006. Filmmaker Roberto Munoz recalls Karen Lynn Gorney on the film shoot: “She was a pleasure to work with and a real pro.”
Plans are underway for the film festival circuit.
