how it all began...
:: the history of CubeCity ::
Founded in 1985
CubeCity Entertainment, Inc. first began operations in Canada
to promote rock concerts. This included Freedom '88, a major music festival in Kitchener, Ontario.
In 1994, CubeCity (under the name P.M. Productions) began to experiment with musical
theatre. Enlisting the aid of local actors, they launched a tour
of the Moon Brothers musical,
Job and the Snake in the Canadian Niagara Peninsula (1994-1995).
This soon led to a move and a five-year stay in the world's third largest theatre market...
Theatre in Toronto, Canada...
During this time they operated their own workshop theatre space in downtown
Toronto. While in Toronto, the CubeCity team supported themselves through extended runs at their
own theatre site, with occasional performances at the Betty Oliphant Theatre,
home of Canada's National Ballet School, and various
appearances on Canada's VISION TV Network.
Los Angeles...
In 2000, they ventured south of the Canadian border and expanded their operations to Los Angeles,
California, officially changing their name to CubeCity Entertainment. Their
three-week showcase of Job and the Snake at the Grove Theatre (the home
theatre of late great comedian Sam Kinison) convinced them to permanently relocate
their operations stateside to the world capital of theatre...
New York City...
In March 2001, CubeCity showcased the Moon Brothers musical Purim Day
in Times Square to a packed house at the Lamb's mainstage theatre space. In time they staged other
theatre productions including The Pilgrim in Wonderland, Epimenides, Come Away and various
staged reads for selected audiences.
