Meet Jake Forsyth
Q&A with the Director of Photography of "Dear J"Q: Why did you decide to go into film?
A: I feel that of all the art forms film is the one that encourages the audience to react vocally. The theatre experience is one where a community of people can laugh together as well as direct the characters (i.e. "Don't go up stairs alone!!")Q: What is your experience in film?
A: I have recently graduated from a course in Video Production. In 2002 my film "Shakespeare Retold" placed 2nd in Cinefest Sudbury's amateur filmmakers competition.Q: What attracted you to working on this film?
A: After reading the script, I knew that the writers had a clear vision and the film told a story that needed to be told.Q: Who is your favourite character in the film? Why?
A: The character of Staples is the truest Christ Follower I have seen on film, ever a man whose faith is strong; it is not a blind faith but a supported faith.Q: What was your favourite part of your job?
A: Working with Mann during pre-production and visualizing the scenes and how they were to be put on screen.Q: What was the most challenging thing about this experience?
A: With the number of crew being limited, the days were long and busy.Q: What did you enjoy the most about working on this film?
A: The experience of working on a film with a very talented cast and a crew that had a unified objective.Q: Tell about working on the film. Do you have any funny stories or anecdotes?
A: We often stayed on location over night and so I was staying at the school that was used as the hallways of the institute set. However, this was not communicated to the custodial staff of the school. So at 4:00 am, when the Janitor came into the room where I was sleeping, I think we were both a little surprised.Q: What’s the craziest thing you have done?
A: I traveled to England for a 3 week tour... with one week of notice. I got a phone call on a Thursday night "Hey Jake! Want to go to England ...on Wednesday?">> Back to top
